A Note about The Friends

The The Friends of Holy Trinity was formed in October 1996 with 80 founder members. Membership has now grown to 400 and is open to anyone who wishes to have a share in the preservation of Rayleigh's 600 year old parish church.

Our aim is to raise funds for repairs and restoration work through a program of events and activities, thus ensuring that future generations may continue to enjoy that which has been handed down to us.

In our first six years we have raised over £150, 000 for church restoration. You are very welcome to join us, we need your support. For details of membership contact The Secretary, The Friends of Holy Trinity Rayleigh, via the Parish Office, Rectory Garth, Rayleigh, on (01268) 742151

RAYLEIGH GARDEN TRAIL

Thirteen gardens are open in Rayleigh between 10am and 5pm on Bank Holiday Monday 5th May 2008 in aid of the Friends of Holy Trinity. This is the 10th year for this very popular Rayleigh event.

All have something different to interest visitors - some offer refreshments, some have plants or produce for sale, bric a brac etc. Full details are in the Garden Trail guide complete with a map, which gives entry to all gardens. The Guide costs £4.50 and admits one, or £7 admits two.

The Guides are on sale at Rayleigh Parish Centre on the day, and available now from The Parish Office, Byford Butchers, Rayleigh Horticultural Soc, Parker Electrics, Squires Coffee Shop, The Copy Shop, Wheatley Farm Nursery and Rona Estate Agents.

CHURCH FABRIC UPDATE September 2007

Small Works Contract :

1. A list of repairs that need doing eg stonework flaking away underneath the little high level east window, possibly letting water in, and other jobs which are necessary to prevent further deterioration. A contract has been drawn up and it is hoped that the work can be put in hand once a faculty has been granted.

Further works :

1. The two south aisle windows next to the one repaired in 2005 are in a very fragile condition and need urgent restoration.

2. Stone work at the upper part of the tower needs repair as soon as possible.

The church is to launch a Tower and Window project. Details will follow.

And finally, as always we are indebted to the Friends for their support in saving our dearly beloved house of prayer for future generations.
